morphology materials [feb 15]
here are the morphology materials i promised in class today. first, more morphology:
- a copy of the swahili problem set, that you can substitute for the japanese one on the first homework assignment (due monday, if you want to do it as a substitution of the japanese)
- the "how to solve morphology problems" guide, for problem sets like the ones on the first homework assignment
- a few more morphology problemsets for fun and practice. if you want feedback of more involved ones, let me know.
next, homework related things:
- the answer/grading key to homework one
- just for reference, a copy of homework assignment two (which you guys handed in today).
- (the swahili problem set from the section above)
and lastly, some background readings:
- a nice book chapter by steven pinker on the way kids start to apply rules when learning language. our discussion in the first class this semester was based on this.
- a short overview of word formation processes (we talked about affixation and compounding in class).
- a longer text book chapter about morphology.
these last things are here for your reference, in case you want to look up things we did in class so far. that's all for now :)
